TASTE IS SUPERFICIAL
Multi-media Installation
<Taste is the superficial layer of oneself, connecting the external world and the inner core.>
-
This art installation was my senior thesis for BFA Graphic Design. As a response to the theme ‘Superficial’, I explored how ‘taste’ - in my understanding, what we like - is the superficial layer of myself that connects and inside of me and others, thus reflecting simultaneously.
This project was beyond graphic design- I pushed forward on what I can do - from drawing to fabricating, installation, painting, and cultivating experience.
24 acrylic pieces of my own illustrations hang down from the frame, in front of my portrait, so that the audience can look through the semi-transparent illustrations. It’s a metaphor of people understanding me superficially through things that I like.
On the backside of the pieces there reside engraved stories of each ‘tastes’. As people flip and read the stories, they get to understand me deeper, as a metaphor of deeper interaction.
